It is now widely recognised that cancer researchers need to partner with people with lived experience to ensure that the research they undertake is of relevance to those affected by cancer. Similarly, engaging with people affected by cancer is essential if we are to ensure that cancer interventions, services and healthcare systems are fit for purpose, that is, person-centred, holistic, accessible, and equitable. In this presentation, Dr Andrea Smith will talk about how her lived experience of cancer and her experiences with the cancer healthcare system have directly led to her developing a collaborative program of metastatic survivorship research with key survivorship researchers in Australia.
